Auditioning!... with Kelly Fong

Last but not least, we have Kelly, aged 10! Kelly joined YAF in 2013 with Weird Sisters as her first project. Since then she’s performed in A Chorus Line, Arts in the Park, The Peninsula dance performance series, Ocean Art Walk 2014 in Stanley, and most recently played Matilda in Matilda! 

最後一位受訪者，我們邀請到十歲的方慶霖與我們分享！方慶霖於2013年參與YAF的劇場表演「古怪姐妹」，其後曾參與音樂劇《舞步青雲》、「渣打藝趣嘉年華」、「半島酒店85週年」舞蹈表演系列、「海洋藝術展2014在赤柱」舞蹈表演及劇場表演《瑪嬌達》的女主角瑪嬌達！

Kelly, how did you learn about YAF?
We had to do a school dance at Beacon Hill School and Lindsey was the director of it. We were all devising. After the dance performance, Lindsey went up to my parents and introduced YAF to them. Later on we decided to work with YAF. YAF is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! It is the BEST team I've ever worked with.

你從甚麼渠道認識YAF？
我參與在畢架山小學舉行的舞蹈表演，而麥蓮茜是活動的導演。我們都為活動而努力表演。在表演結束後，麥蓮茜向我的父母介紹YAF。自此，我們便決定與YAF合作。 YAF真的很棒！！！！這是我參與眾多表演以來最好的團隊。

What’s it like auditioning for a YAF show?
It is very exciting because you get to show all your skills to the judges. Sometimes I can get nervous because there are lots of people better than me - you will never know if you will be chosen. So at every audition, I just try my best and to believe in myself.

參與YAF的遴選面試是怎樣的？
這是非常令人興奮，因為你只需在評審面前展示你的才能便可。有時候，我都感到緊張，實在有很多人比我更好。但你永遠不會知道，到底誰才是YAF所尋找的理想人選。因此，每次面試我都竭盡所能，相信自己的能力。

What do you prepare for an audition?
Every time I hear that there’s an audition, I practice my dancing, singing and acting because in the musicals there are always dancing, singing and acting. If it is not a musical, I only practice my flexibility and dancing. I practice 4 hours a day. If there is an audition, I practice 5 and a half hours. On the audition day, I do my hair nicely and I wear suitable clothes.

你在面試前要準備甚麼？
每當我得知即將有遴選面試時，我都會趕緊練習我的舞蹈、歌唱及演戲技巧。因為在音樂劇幢，演員都要跳舞、唱歌和演戲。若不是音樂劇的遴選，我只會練習我的肢體靈活度和舞蹈。 每天我練習4小時。若有面試的話，我會練習5個半小時。而在面試當日，我會把頭髮束好，並穿上合適的衣服參與面試。

Top tips?
• Be at least 15-30 minutes early to the audition, because no one rushes into an audition
• When the YAF team asks you to perform, just keep smiling and be relaxed
• Always be 150% energetic and give 150% facial expressions when you dance
• When you are saying something, make eye contact with the judges
• When the YAF team asks for volunteers, always go for it
• When you are acting, you have to articulate and finish the ends of words
• Always be 150% switched on

What is your favourite thing about being in a YAF show ?
Meeting other people that I don’t know, performing, going to the theater and trying out the theater stage.

What are YAF rehearsals like?
Fast, but fun! Some of the YAF shows use devising, where the YAF team doesn’t teach you the choreography - instead you choreograph your 8’s and the YAF director will then put it all together.
